Can We Rock the Boat? Sharing Salary Negotiation Stories

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Did you negotiate your starting salary at your first library job? If so, were you successful? Have you discussed your salary or salary negotiation with colleagues? Once hired, were you able to re-negotiate your salary or address compression issues? Unfortunately, research shows that many women do not rock the boat and negotiate for their starting salaries. If this club includes you, how did you rebound? Salaries may be a taboo topic, but through sharing our stories we can learn from each other and lift each other up. Let's explore how we might collectively act to encourage competitive and liveable salaries for folks working in libraries. Two librarians who served on a library faculty salary study taskforce at their university library will be guiding this roundtable discussion while drawing from the literature and conversations they had at a state-wide conference.
