We Heart Art: Teaching Art and Design Principles through Makerspace Instruction

Log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Makerspaces have revolutionized libraries, expanding the services they offer and creating opportunities to engage patrons in new and exciting ways. However, many makerspace activities focus on disciplines outside the arts, like engineering, and while creativity is a focus, artistic principles and formal elements of design are left relatively unexplored. In this session, an art librarian and a makerspace librarian inspire attendees to collaboratively brainstorm to bridge the gap between art and makerspace instruction with lesson plans/activities that explore connections between the Bauhaus, a German art and design school, surrealism, and maker-centered learning concepts.
